Breville Espresso Machines for Sale, Espresso/Cappuccino Maker Review
Breville is a well known Australian manufacturer of kitchen appliances which also makes small espresso machines. Their machines are on the lower end of the espresso machine price range - about two hundred fifty to three hundred fifty dollars, and make a good cup of espresso when used with good technique. Since it's generally a more basic machine, picky espresso connoisseurs may not be entirely satisfied. But, for those who appreciate a really good espresso, cappuccino or whatever, Breville delivers the goods. (continue reading below...)

Breville Espresso Machines For Budget Minded Espresso Lovers
Like all domestic machines, the Breville range uses a vibration pump, but the heating technology is where things differ. Breville espresso machines make use of a thermoblock - a multichannel aluminum block using an exterior heating element. No more than ten milliliters of water will be inside the block at any given time. Thermoblocks work on the theory that heating the water using the external element and pushing it through at a measured flow rate will help produce an appropriate water temperature.
This works acceptably, but in some machines, the first water that comes into contact with the coffee is a little too hot, and the remaining water a little too cool. Flow restriction in thermoblock espresso machines also reduces the pressure, making it hard to do an extraction. This is why you'll find that Breville espresso machines and other types with thermoblock technology use a crema enhancing device to produce a better product.
With machines of this type, steaming is done by pumping small bursts of water into a very hot thermoblock, flashing it into steam. This results in wetter, less robust steam than with more expensive machines, though reviews of Breville's steam wands are generally quite good. The steam enhancer that comes with some espresso machines from Breville may actually be a little over powered.
The end result is an average quality espresso or milk drink, as long as you have good technique. Machines of this type make good first espresso machines for people who aren't sure whether espresso at home is for them. Breville's range is also attractive, easy to clean and use, and offers a fast warmup time. Espresso machines from Breville are solidly constructed and come in a stainless steel finish that's at home in most kitchens. The pressurized filter basket causes problems for some, but this can be fixed by replacing it with an inexpensive Breville brand nonpressurized filter basket, resulting in stronger crema.
For those who are interested in home espresso, but don't want to spend a lot and are willing to learn good technique, Breville makes an excellent first espresso machine. While these aren't the top of the line, they are well built and reasonably high quality, as well as being in a price range that the average person can afford. This makes them a good choice for beginners and people new to espresso, though people who want the best may prefer a higher end machine. Breville espresso machines are certainly worth a look.
